Start with the sample itself. Powders and blends can be inhomogeneous: a mineral-dense particle in one scoop of sample can produce a spike the rest of the lot does not share. Ask how the sample was drawn (one container or several), whether it was homogenized, and whether a retained counter-sample exists.
Then look at the method. Confirm the lab used a validated elemental method, ICP-MS following procedures of the type defined in USP <233> or FDA's EAM 4.7, with stated detection limits, and ask whether digestion, dilution, and calibration checks were within control.
Then retest deliberately, not hopefully: the original sample if retained, plus fresh samples drawn from multiple containers across the lot.
